I attended the NYC premiere of ‘A Quiet Place: Day One’ and I must say that this movie had the perfect amount of scare and intensity.
On a bustling day in New York City, meteors fell from the sky and the city entered an apocalyptic state. Like the franchise predecessors, we are introduced to petrifying monsters that hunt by sound, and the only way to survive is to make as little noise as possible.
The performances were awesome! Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn had great chemistry and you could feel their emotional connection despite their silence. And of course, Frodo the cat brought more life to this movie. The characters in this film remind us even in life’s darkest moments, there are still many reasons to smile and have hope.
The film is straightforward and clear. The pacing and intensity kept me on the edge of my seat. The suspense was great, and it had several jump scares. The visuals allow the audience to understand the history and survival rules with hauntingly beautiful cinematography. The CGI of the sound-sensitive creatures was well done too!
I think Director Michael Sarnoski was successful in taking on this franchise and it is probably my favorite one of the series to date.
Overall, it’s a great sci-fi horror and while it is nothing groundbreaking it is still entertaining. I recommend checking it out!
