‘MaXXXine’ is the third installment in a horror slasher trilogy. This film highlights the 80s culture and aesthetic as the storyline follows a young woman who has made her way in Hollywood the hard way. This was not my favorite movie of the trilogy – I enjoyed ‘Pearl’ the best set a very high bar with excellent character development.
“MaXXXine” is primarily a drama with some mystery elements that revolves around the identity of the killer.
Even though I thought the overall plot of the movie was predictable, I enjoyed the Tarantino-esque ‘Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood’ elements.
As per usual, Mia Goth was spectacular. I think she is a young horror genre icon. Kevin Bacon was absolutely the stand-out in this movie as he was super sinister. Bobby Cannavale also shines in his supporting role.
The two best things about this movie.
- The directed used the original ‘Psycho’ movie set. You can see the Bates Motel and house!
- The spellbinding cinematography as each frame is meticulously crafted to evoke a sense of wonder and suspense. The use of shadows and light, panoramic shots, and the intimate close-ups shots all serve to create a visual symphony.
In conclusion, if you are a fan of this trilogy, give ‘MaXXXine’ a watch.
