‘Eternity’s Gate’ is a movie about Van Gogh’s life, and it attempts to show his vision of the world and what he hoped to accomplish with his paintings.
The great cast and brilliant acting of Willem Dafoe with a touch of Julian Schnabel’s directing brought the film to life. Van Gogh is exemplified in Dafoe’s anguished face and truly captures the emotions and the style of Van Gogh’s paintings, and his painting philosophy.
The marvelous cinematography was like a kaleidoscope of images and visions. The authentic locations/ scenes allow the audience to be immersed into the life of being an artist. The interesting angles, and POV shots give an emotional connection to Van Gogh. This film captures the last of Van Gogh’s life with beautiful colors with each frame looking like a live action Van Gogh painting. The script and dialogue were also very impactful.
