‘Strange Darling’ is a brilliant psychological horror and kept me hooked from the beginning with its clever non-linear storytelling. The movie felt like a puzzle unraveling and kept me guessing.
Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner deliver standout performances, bringing transformative energy and dimension to their roles.
The technical production of the film was on point. I was very impressed with Giovanni Ribisi’s debut work as a cinematographer. The cinematography is dreamlike and captivating. Ribisi used shadows and lighting to evoke a sense of tension and unease. The visual aesthetic perfectly complements the storytelling. The close-up camera shots during intense moments allows the audience to experience the characters fear and desperation on a highly visceral level. Moreover, the twists and the cat-and-mouse chase sequences kept me on edge.
The haunting soundtrack created a palpable sense of dread. The deliberate pacing may seem slow at times however it effectively heightens the sense of anticipation. The payoff is worth the wait as the tension builds steadily, culminating in a series of revelations. The mood and tone of the film is ominous – hinting at the eeriness that lurks beneath the surface.
In sum, ‘Strange Darling’ is clever, with standout performances, eerie visuals, and a storyline that keeps you intrigued. I highly recommend this film!
