‘Mommie Dearest’ is a film based on a book written by Joan Crawford’s daughter, Christina Crawford. and displays how Joan Crawford behaved behind closed doors with her children, how she abused them, had crazy/wild outbursts, which sometimes turned violent.
Faye Dunaway’s performance as Joan Crawford is fearless, brutal, raw, vulnerable, and unforgettable. Dunaway delivers a tour de force performance that is impossible to ignore. I found her character’s behaviors incredibly disturbing and terrifying but enthralling to watch. She goes from controlled charm to unhinged rage in seconds. Truly an unbelievable performance!
The film itself is an excellent portrayal of the life of Hollywood glamor, and the consequences of being wrapped up in that lifestyle. The film print color, direction, sets, and music is great and worth watching.
