‘Challengers’ is a compelling movie presented in a manner that mirrors tennis– it is fierce, kinetic, and competitive.
This movie explores themes of love, lust, ambition and jealousy with so much precision that it feels that a scalpel was used in each scene.
The three lead actors, Zendaya, Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist were great and have undeniable chemistry. It is noteworthy to mention that the actors did a great job expressing the significance of non-verbal communication too.
The cinematography helps to encapsulate all the complexities of tennis. I thought the camera work was great and it made watching tennis matches interesting. For example, the viewer can follow the shadows on the ground from the perspective of the ball. Moreover, the camera work creates suspense that keeps the audience on the edge of their seat. The director and screen writers did a great job by adding complexity and depth to the love triangle coiled around the game of tennis.
Challengers is an intriguing watch and the ending is left up to interpretation which is great. I recommend this film!
