Avatar: The Way of Water is a phenomenal sequel. There are a ton of reviews about this movie so I will keep it short and simple: what I loved most about this film was the innovative visual effects (VFX) and computer-generated imagery (CGI). I highly recommend seeing this movie on the big screen as the advanced filmmaking technology is breathtaking. The storyline is quite simple but the visual storytelling on screen enhances everything.
James Cameron has great direction and explores the characters to greater limits while also allowing the view to see themselves reflected in this epic tale of cultural/societal identity and mother nature.
I definitely recommend this movie! Go see it on the big screen!
Let’s dissect a little about CGI and VFX!
Cinema has evolved greatly with outstanding and revolutionary visual effects.
What is CGI?
-CGI stands for computer generated imagery, which is the use of computer graphics in art and media.
-Can be 2D or 3D animations, objects, or renderings (film, television program, video game, or simulation)
What are CGI characteristics?
-Two-dimensional computer generated imagery, such as text, objects, backgrounds, backdrops, and environments
-Three-dimensional objects, figures, spaces, and environments
-Composite imagery and video that creates illusions
What is a VFX?
-Combines live-action footage and manipulated or enhanced imagery to create realistic environments and characters
I think this is a cool little chart showing the differences.
