David Beckham’s documentary series is a testament to his incredible journey in the world of football and beyond. This docu-series captures the essence of his sporting prowess from his early days at Manchester United to his international career with England. Moreover, the series gives the viewer a peek at the “behind the curtains” look at David and Victoria’s private life. The interviews with his family and colleagues provided unique insight as well.
The storytelling in this series weaved Beckham’s life story with engaging thematic elements, allowing the audience to have a comprehensive understanding of his journey from a young talent to a global brand. ‘Beckham’ celebrates his incredible career achievements in football but also highlights his character, humility, gratitude, and commitment. I have a newfound respect for Victoria and David as they seem so humble, likable, and authentic.
One of the highlights for me includes the recap of the infamous kick during the 1998 World Cup tournament for which Beckham received a red card. Argentina player Diego Simeone admitted Beckham did not deserve the red card and said, “The contact was minimal. You can see I was hamming it up, knocked over by David’s imaginary kick.”
Overall, this series made me appreciate Beckham not just as a football icon, but as a dedicated father, husband, and philanthropist. I highly recommend this mini-series as it is a compelling story of success, determination, and the sacrifices necessary to achieve your dreams.
