‘Fly Me to the Moon’ is a wonderful and compelling film that takes you on a whirlwind adventure.
The storyline fictionally describes the times at NASA during the 1960s when Apollo 11 was launched into space. This is a fantastic period piece with a backdrop that captures the imagination, fascinating history, and interesting characters.
The cast is memorable and entertaining. Scarlett Johansson, Woody Harrelson, and Ray Romano knock their performances out of the park. Channing Tatum was probably my fav as he really nailed this role and was impressive.
The cinematography is great, focusing on smooth camera movements and great angles capturing the film beautifully. I read that Director Greg Berlanti and the entire production team turned to researchers at NASA for guidance while filming at Cape Kennedy. Berlanti also used archival footage, including 1960s TV commercials, news broadcasts, and more. The production team filmed at the Kennedy Space Center Complex in Florida where they used actual rockets, vehicles and buildings. (I’ve visited this spectacular place before and I highly recommend it!)
The script is clever, and there’s a nice blend of charm and comedy. The narrative includes elements of romance and drama, adding depth.
The costume design was excellent and enhanced the visual appeal.
The editing maintained a well-paced flow, with innovative split cuts and slow/fast motion.
In conclusion, ‘Fly Me to the Moon’ is a worthwhile period piece that exceeds expectations. Go see it!
