Freud’s Last Session

Posted on March 3, 2024March 3, 2024

‘Freud’s Last Session’ is a fictional account and a dramatic portrayal of a monumental session with Sigmund Freud and C. S. Lewis, two of the greatest minds of the twentieth century. The two intellectual titans discuss and debate over the future of mankind and the existence of God.

‘Freud’s Last Session’ dives into fascinating philosophical and theological questions, crafting a fictional scenario to grapple with how a young Lewis and a dying Freud could have met each other and debated difficult questions. This movie is thought-provoking and enlightening and it allows the audience to tap into Freud’s ability to clinically dissect the lives of others and to understand Lewis’s faith.

This movie is filled with wonderful cinematography and with engaging performances by Anthony Hopkins and Matthew Goode. Hopkins is absolutely brilliant as per usual. I specifically like how this film allowed the characters to demonstrate their strengths, fallibilities, and weaknesses.

“Freud’s Last Session” is overall a solid film about the human condition, loss, and religion. I enjoyed how the film interweaves the lives of Freud and Lewis, past and present – through fantasy. This film exudes wisdom and intellect. If you like films that tap into psychology and philosophy, I think you will enjoy this one!
