‘Oddity’ is an intriguing slow-burn horror movie. The narrative is good, and the pace builds tension. The film reminded me of an old-fashioned ghost story. The film is creepy, entertaining and reminiscent of horror comics from the 70’s or from horror anthologies like “Creepshow”. The mysterious storyline had me invested throughout the runtime.
The film was shot in West Cork, County Cork, Ireland. The cinematography is exquisite and visually gorgeous.
I liked that Writer and Director Damian McCarthy added some iconic horror tropes and tools such as creepy mannequins and cursed antiques. Thus, the elements of supernatural, crime and psychometry converge to create a great story.
I thought the literary elements of foreshadowing were used well as the narrative gives clues and hints of what is to come later. The interesting angles and composition allowed the audience to see clues, whether it was head on or on the edges of the frame or in the background. Additionally, there are some twists and turns in this movie that were executed in fantastic ways.
Overall, ‘Oddity’ was a great horror movie and I recommend checking it out!
