‘Ratatouille’ is a Pixar quintessential masterpiece. It is truly remarkable for its visual landscape, and the narrative is charming.
Animation-wise, Ratatouille is a sight to behold. In my opinion, it is one of the most stunning animations from Disney/Pixar productions. The landscape of Paris, France, really adds a layer of dimension and realism to the film. The food looks so real and delicious, and the humans and rats look incredibly realistic. The level of detail and the rich tactile textures of each character and scene is mind-blowingly impressive.
The story surrounding Remy and Linguini is simply inspirational. Remy has a passion for culinary arts, and he knows that he is destined for the kitchen. As a rat, Remy feels that his dreams are impossible, but he still risks everything to follow his dreams. Remy’s refusal to settle for anything less than excellent is a testament.
Director and writer, Brad Bird, did a fantastic job with this movie and won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Bird managed to combine the magic of the classic Disney pictures with some fresh ingredients and stunning animation.
From the standpoint of writing, this film has several themes that layer the multifaceted characters. The themes of friendship, loyalty, teamwork, and acceptance are all highlighted. It is noteworthy to mention the great voice characterizations by all the actors, especially by Patton Oswalt as Remy.
The soundtrack was so charming and beautiful as well.
Chef Gousteau says “Good food is like music you can taste, color you can smell. There is excellence all around you. You need only to be aware to stop and savor it.” Everyone should stop and savor this masterpiece as ‘Ratatouille’ excites the taste buds, pulls at the heartstrings and is a visual feast. Bon appetit!
