I really enjoyed ‘Speak No Evil’! Finally, a big win for 2024 Blumhouse Productions!
The entire cast are all very good, bringing intensity to the screen. James McAvoy steals the show with a layered and powerhouse performance. McAvoy blurs the lines between being charismatic, funny and charming to unnerving, unhinged and sinister.
The mystery surrounding James McAvoy and his wife (Aisling Franciosi) is interesting as they slowly show their true colors. The narrative keeps you engaged with its thrilling moments. There is ample tension throughout the runtime to keep you invested in the story. I enjoyed the incredible long sequences of dialogue that almost felt like you were watching a play. The dialogues are driven scenes that are psychologically terrifying and set the foreshadowing stage.
The cinematography and soundtrack add depth and emotion, enhancing the overall immersive experience.
Ironically, there were several times in the film where I thought that McAvoy’s character was heavily inspired by Jack Nicholson in ‘The Shining’. Funny enough, there was a scene that was totally Jack Torrance – it was the “Here’s Johnny,” Jack Nicholson moment. Loved it!
Overall, I highly recommended this film as it is a memorable cinema experience that is terrifically twisted!
