‘To Leslie’ tells the journey of an alcoholic woman battling her demons. Leslie (Andrea Riseborough) wins $190,000 in the lottery but soon blows it all. She abandons her 13-year-old son, James (Owen Teague), leaving him to her sister, Nancy (Allison Janney), and Nancy’s boyfriend, Dutch (Stephen Root). I think Andrea Riseborough gives a great performance as a manipulative alcoholic woman, burdened by her failures and trying to find the will to survive.
Marc Maron (Sweeney) is her light throughout the film – he provided empathy and second/third/fourth/fifth chances when no one else would. This is a great movie. It doesn’t have a judgmental tone and overall the cast & script was great.
It is a heavy movie but worth a watch for the performances alone!
